Finished Project

Today i completed my evaluation using guidance from a file on my smart page and the rubric we were issued the start. It was important for the evaluation to include screengrabs and annotations, thus i have extracted many areas from my module and explained each section. I have also used feedback from my client and her fellow history teachers in my evaluation.  This is my final section of project completed and the rest of the time will be dedicated to wrapping and complying all my work into a single Pdf portfolio. I will also need to convert my blog into a transparent and coherent Pdf file using a site called http://www.blogbooker.com/. Therefore, this will be my final blog post.

Further Feedback

I have also received feedback from Ms Thomson and Mr Taylor, 2 other history teachers that will also be using my module to teach. This further feedback will allow me to improve my evaluation and understand more about  various areas of my product.

Here's some feedback from Ms Thomson - another History teacher

Dear Chris, what a fantastic project, well done! With reference to the specifications for the project I have the following feedback

Include the following topics within “1900’s China”:  The Long March, The Invasion of Manchuria and The Cultural Revolution. - You have accomplished this well with detailed and informative sections on the topic that clearlyt explain the key events.

The age range for my product is for students at the age of 11- 13 - The information sections and quizes are of a good standard for this age range as they are written in a very clear and informative manner with engaging material in the form of the quizes.

Engaging, informative, concise, creative and accurately reflect the syllabus for 1900's China - It is certainly engaging, concise and creatove, you have accomplised this section effectively.

The product will allow people who have the most basic ICT knowledge to operate it. (They will only have to know how to operate a mouse) because it only consists of buttons and text to read. The product does not require the user to process adequate and apt ICT skills - It has been designed in a way that means that ICT skills are not necessary to navigate the programme meaning that it is indeed accessible to everyone.

Great Work, well done.
Ms Thomson

Discussion with Client

Today i went to see my client, Ms Walker. She had a brief look at the files i sent her (my module), she likes the changes i made after the feedback from her and the year 9s. She liked the Mao's head animation like before, and she liked the new background color of the buttons because it was more attractive. She also said the pictures in the quizzes was a good idea as it allows the students to understand the topics more easily. She   also sent me a email with specific feedback and things i could improve on:

 Feedback:
Visually grabbing - esp the rolling heads
Good layout on title and sub papges
Good inclusion of the music
Quizes link directly to the information given - studnets can either try quiz first then read and redo quiz, or read info then do the quiz.
Could have broken down the info into bullet point, highlighted key words, could have given more detail.
Quiz layout could have been more visual
Links all work well
Appropriate for the target age group of Year 9
Followed my original brief / specifications
Hope that is ok - if not come tp see me tomorrow
Have a good evening
Ms Walker

Client update

Today i emailed my client, Ms walker, enclosing my final version of my module. I informed her that the product was complete and asked her for precious feedback:

Dear Ms Walker,

I have made changes/amendments to the previous draft i sent you earlier - Japanese cartoon plane, new pictures, different fonts etc. Enclosed within the email is my final product, the one that will be submitted to the examiner. Thus, i will be greatly thankful if you could provide a detailed feedback on my module and please give comments on areas that you like and areas that could be improved. Please consider the specifications that were agreed on at the start of the project :
  •   Include the following topics within “1900’s China”:  The Long March, The Invasion of Manchuria and The Cultural Revolution.
  •  The age range for my product is for students at the age of 11- 13
  • Engaging, informative, concise, creative and accurately reflect the syllabus for 1900's China
  •  The product will allow people who have the most basic ICT knowledge to operate it. (They will only have to know how to operate a mouse) because it only consists of buttons and text to read. The product does not require the user to process adequate and apt ICT skills
Ideally, could you please complete the feedback asap (before the due date of 12th March). Sorry about the late notice. Thank you very much for your time, as this feedback is crucial for my evaluation which i need for a good grade.

Thank you, Chris Xia

The feedback from her will be crucial to me as it will help me write my evaluation and also help me understand my project from her point of view. Hopefully my module has solved her "problem". I will also go see her tomorrow to discuss the finer points of the feedback with her.

Evaluation

Today i started on my evaluation, the evaluation needs to compare my product with my initial specification/objectives outlined between me and my client, Ms Walker. To accomplish this, i will need to ask my client to write up a feedback concerning my module and include her thoughts on the module. I will include changes and alterations i made along the way due to feedback (Client and Year 9), problems, discoveries (iSpring Flash Converter). Obviously, i will need to evaluate on the quality of my final project which will be aided with feedback from my client - the juxtaposition of feedback from both me and my client will give an accurate feedback/evaluation of my module. Finally, i will need to make comparisons to the rubric and criteria we were given at the start to rate how many marks i will potentially achieve, i will also spot which areas of the criteria i have missed out and how i could have improved it.

Final Project

Today i made final adjustments to my project, such positioning of various buttons, shape, text etc . Finally, i did a final check of the entire module to check if everything was accurately placed as plan and if there was anything missing. Ensured that my module was finished, i published the PowerPoint into a flash file using iSpring flash converter and submitted the flash file a completed product. Next, i will evaluate my module to conclude how much  my product solved my client's problem and where i could have improved my module. I will include my own feedback and how well i thought my module "did the job", as well as my client's feedback and thoughts on my module.

Mao Figure

Today i replaced the Chinese flag with a Mao figurine on my homepage. I chose this picture because Mao's hand was pointing at the direction of my "buttons", indicating the students to choose a topic to press on. Thus, it fits perfectly with my homepage and suits the overall picture/slide. First i found the picture (above) on the internet, then i put the picture on Photoshop and cropped out Mao's figure out of the picture using the "quick selection tool" and "refine edge tool". Then i saved the cut-out Mao figure and replaced the Chinese flag with it as shown above. I believe it suits my module nicely, also the figure points at the topics on the right which is also a added bonus.
